The storyline
The book
is a collection 10 short stories that take you to the wonderland of stories. An
obsessive collector of beetles becomes self-destructive landing himself in a
never-solving trouble. Short story named ‘The Mall’ aptly describes how a woman
on a shopping spree entangles herself only to realize that she cannot go home.
On the other hand, ‘The house on the hill’ describes the little girl’s
innocence with a bit humor attached to it. ‘Drinks at Seven’ spills the beans
about the friendship among four friends who meet up one evening for drinks
& they realize what’s there on surface is not the same inside. Short story
named after the character ‘Mili’ describes past lovers’ plight in depth leaving
both high & dry in their present scenario.
Lastly,
‘These circuses that sweep through the landscape’ concludes an entire book.
My review
A
collection of short stories with an array of different emotions displayed for
the reader in you to consume! Don’t you trust? Let me begin with its review.
These circuses that sweep through the landscape is a collection of short
stories written by Tejaswini Apte-Rahm is a delight to relish on for a long
time. Every story is unique in its own way. Each story is rich with
imagination, fantasy and comes with an enriched reading experience.
The book
displays varied human emotions on shelf. From romance, pain, love, passion,
greed, fear, innocence to infidelity, author sums up everything in 157 pages of
her book.
Each
story is immaculately & passionately composes its theme taking a reader on
a whirlwind ride of emotions. Despite of its twisted, confusing characters
& shocking endings, each story leaves you transfixed. Particularly, I loved
‘The house on the hill’ story where the author simply uses a little girl’s
innocence as a main element to make the reader venerable & ends with an
unexpected twist.
‘The
mall’ is a classic example of a shopaholic’s obsessive personality &
explains how mall’s larger-than-life structure can be a suffocating experience
for older people. Such ‘What If’ scenarios are beautifully captured in rich
words by the author.
Whether
its author’s deliberate attempt or coincidence but every story has turned out
to be a great delight for the reader.
Every
story stirs your imagination and keep you engage for hours as you cannot think
of putting down.
The
author’s diversified experience in writing has enriched her vocabulary. (We
can’t blame that for a writer) However, for Indian readers or let’s say for
locals digesting such writing could become a herculean task since the story has
difficult words & lengthy descriptions.
The
writing style
Author’s
polished language reflects on every story. Some descriptive lines are worth to
note as reading becomes highly imaginative:
The book
cover & the title
The
design of the book serves its purpose and that is challenging reader’s
imagination and excitement & so is the title. However, the font on the
cover should have been chosen better as the font is a bit unreadable.
My rating: 4/5
Totally
worth reading! Once you pick, I bet you’ll be able to finish it in a one shot
as it is hardly 157 pages. Moreover, descriptive passages in the book transport
you in the world of fantasy which is worth taking.
